Running Back Spencer Ware Absent From LSU Tigers Training Drills

While it’s a bit too early for a “run on the bank”, it’s still a matter of concern for me. LSU has placed a considerable amount of responsibility on the young man’s shoulders this season.

Spencer’s role with the team is perhaps second only to Jordan Jefferson the Lsu quarterback. You normally wouldn’t say that of a running back, but all things tend to indicate that Lsu Head coach Les Miles is planning to develop a strong running game this season to take the pressure off QB Jordan Jefferson.

Having said that, Spencer Ware is the “big dog” in the kennel. There’s also talk of Jordan feeling more comfortable and relaxed this season, and coach Miles wants to keep him that way. I guess that if it takes two keys to unlocking the door to a national championship for LSU this season, Spencer Ware is one of them, and Jordan Jefferson is the other.

In related news from Nola.com:

Other players not dressed out included offensive linemen Will Blackwell, La’El Collins and Evan Washington; defensive tackle Josh Downs; wide receiver Armand Williams; and fullback J.C. Copeland.

Ware practiced both sessions Wednesday. It was the third consecutive practice missed by Blackwell, who missed 10 games last year with a broken ankle. Williams practiced Wednesday morning but has missed two workouts since with a recurring hamstring problem.

Offensive tackle Chris Faulk and wide receiver Kadron Boone worked out in green no contact jerseys.

Jefferson seems to be able to function better without a lot of pressure to perform, even though he did step up and face it well in the Cotton Bowl in the last game a year ago. A good, solid ground attack would serve the Lsu Fighting Tigers well in their upcoming run for the BCA National Championship.

It sure would give the Lsu offensive coordinator a few extra options. We’ll keep you posted on new developments in the situation.

Geaux Tigers!

@Magyver I don’t think I’ve ever been described as fine-feathered so thanks. Bama fans are not as kind to a ‘Coastie’.

I think the Ducks have a great team, I really do. They just took Newton to the limit. I’m not quite sold on LSU being ‘great’ just yet. I know what the Tigers lost from last year. I think that Oregon must fill some spots, but the Dux are better prepared to fill those voids to win today because of rotating depth.

I also don’t have confidence in the QB Jefferson, and it seems like most Tiger fans feel the same. He just doesn’t look natural to me, he looks like a WR turned into a QB. I feel like he’s more comfortable running than throwing, he looks like he has ants in his pants in his drops. Who will bail him out on 3rd and 7 now that Tolliver is gone? Sheppard and Randle are talented but seem small. I don’t see anyone at WR who makes the feathers stand up on my back.

One guy I am frightened of is Ware, Ridley/Ware together would’ve made Duck stew last season. Ware runs like he’s late for afternoon tea and he’s as big as our safety. The Ducks beefed up their D-line this year so it should be a great battle. I don’t see LSU holding us to 14 points with all due respect, it’s not going to happen. The Dux are extremely motivated and the newcomers could be in the “best athletes in school history conversation.”

I see a slow start for both teams, with the Ducks getting on track close to half. I envision LSU turning the ball over more often, and the Ducks offense slowly starting to make their mark in the 2nd half with big plays.

I see 31-20 Dux. Who scares you on the Dux? I’d love the insight of a Tiger as I will not be attending the match.
