Finally, the countdown is within arms reach of the big game, but what do we call it? This game isn’t really a national championship game. First, because both are from the same conference, and second, the two teams combined only played three teams out of the south (LSU: Oregon and West Virginia, Alabama: Penn State). The game of the century was already used in the first match-up between the two schools and now that title and game is completely irrelevant. LSU already won the SEC championship, so it would be unfair to call it the “real” SEC championship game.
What about “King of the South”? And in addition to giving the winning team the BCS crystal football, the winning coach is awarded a crown on the field. This would be taking care of two problems with this game. The first we already talked about with this game not being a true national championship game. The second would help finally put this game up with the other great conference rivalry games.
