Men’s Basketball
Last week the Men’s basketball team went 1-1 in the SEC tournaments. LSU blew out Arkansas 70-54 the played a great game against Kentucky, but ultimately fell short 51-60. Their recent success helped solidify a spot in the NIT tournament that begins on Tuesday.
The Tigers begin their quest for New York City Tuesday night at 8:30pm. The game will air on ESPN. A win and it is a wait and see where they will play next. If they loss it is the end of the season.
Women’s Basketball
Following a week off from finishing second in the SEC tournament, the LSU Lady Tigers found out Monday night they had earned a five seen in the women’s NCAA tournament. LSU will host a regional for the opening weekend. Their first matchup will be against 12th seed San Diego State on Sunday, March 18. The game will air at 6:30pm on ESPN2. The winner of the game will face the Penn State/UTEP winner on Tuesday night.
Baseball
The 13th ranked LSU baseball teamed capped off a busy week going 3-1 on the week. Following a solid 5-0 win at Tulane LSU swept Michigan, and then lost on Sunday to Notre Dame 8-1. The Tigers were scheduled to play Monday night against Notre Dame, but the game was rained out.
This week the Tigers have a mid week game against Northwestern State on Wednesday night at 6:30pm. On the Weekend, LSU opens up SEC play hosting Mississippi State. LSU will play Friday night at 7:00pm, Saturday at 6:00pm and Sunday at 1:00pm. Check back this week for a pre-SEC review of the Tigers.
Softball
The team improved its overall record to 15-7 thanks to a 5-0 week. LSU destroyed Nicholls on the road 10-2, the hosted a round-robin tournament. On Friday, LSU defeated Mississippi Valley State 2-0, and Troy 6-3. Saturday, LSU defeated Troy 1-0 and Mississippi Valley State 16-0.
The Tigers will host Auburn for a double hitter on Wednesday with the first game beginning at 5:00pm and the second at 7:00pm. Like the baseball team, the softball team will host Mississippi State for a three game series at Tiger Park. First pitch Friday night is at 6:00pm, Saturday at 4:00pm and Sunday at 1:00pm.
Men’s Tennis
The 17th ranked tennis team split its two matches last week. Winning at Alabama 5-0, but lost at Auburn 5-2. The teams overall record is now at 8-4 and 2-2 in SEC play. The team’s only match this week is against South Florida on Tuesday afternoon. Play will begin at 3:00pm
Women’s Tennis
Like the men, the women split their matches against Alabama and Auburn. Except they defeated Auburn 4-3, and lost to Alabama 4-0, improving their overall record to 7-4 and 2-2 in the SEC.
The ladies have a busy week. On Wednesday play at Tulsa at 12:00pm. This weekend they host Minnesota Saturday at 1:00pm and Prairie View A&M at 5:00.
Gymnastics
The ninth ranked Tigers defeated Iowa last week 196.3-195.7. The match win improves the ladies to 5-8 on the season. Next up is against West Virginia Friday night at the PMAC. The meet will begin at 7:00pm.
