The Tigers put across four runs on 11 hits to take the first game in Oxford, Mississippi. The Ole Miss Rebels only threw two pitchers in the 13 innings of play but the offense just could not score enough runs to prevent the Tigers from winning in extras. In this case as an LSU fan you have to love some free baseball but as an Ole Miss fan you may just be having a late and long car ride home.
Although the starter Kevin Gausman did the brunt of the work the LSU bullpen did a great job at coming in and closing the door. The bullpen did not allow a single run and only gave up four hits in their 3.2 innings of work to help LSU edge Ole Miss by a score of four to three. Joey Bourgeois (3-2 2.22 ERA) got credit for the win and Nick Goody came in and received the save (9 Saves 0.71 ERA).
Game two of the series is set to go Saturday at two o’clock with sophomore right hander Ryan Eades (5-2, 3.29 ERA) set to square off against Ole Miss’ sophomore right hander Mike Mayers (4-2, 3.69 ERA) at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss. If only these guys could win one without us having to pull all our hair out, reminds me of the football team but a win is a win and we will take them how they come.
