This is the JaCoby Jones the LSU Tigers baseball team needs to make a run at Omaha. And all it took was to move him from the leadoff spot to the nine-hole to get it.
The sophomore second-baseman from Richton, MS, who has struggled at the plate for much of the season after earned Freshman All-American honors last year, torched Ole Miss over the weekend for seven RBI while hitting .417 (5-for-12). He also scored two runs and stole a base as the Tigers took two out of three in Oxford for the first time since 2004.
In the second inning of Sunday’s victory, Jones hit a two-out, two RBI double to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, and his three-run homer in the sixth, also with two outs, was the exclamation point on a five-run LSU outburst. Jones was 3-for-5 and the five RBI was a career high.
Jones also went 2-for-2 in a mid-week victory over Tulane.
