LSU Tigers pick up crucial victory over South Carolina, 5-2

COLUMBIA — LSU ace Kevin Gausman (9-1) scattered five hits in twirling his second consecutive complete game, and Jordy Snikeris had a homer and three RBI as the Tigers won the first game of a three-game set at South Carolina, 5-2.

Raph Rhymes went 2-for-4 and is now batting .476 on the year. Mason Katz also homered for the Tigers.

LSU, 41-13 overall, is now tied with Kentucky for first place in the SEC at 18-10. The Gamecocks, who had a game against Georgia cancelled because of rain last weekend, fell to 17-10.

The Tigers and Gamecocks square off again at 6 pm tonight while Kentucky plays at Mississippi State. Check back later for a full recap of tonight’s game.
