One Week from Kickoff

Seven days until the 2012 LSU Fighting Tigers run out of that tunnel and we get to hear the Band from Tiger Land play those four notes we all so desperately want to hear. This season will be just as exciting if not more exciting after all that has happened since the BCS National Championship team.

The Tigers will look different on both sides of the ball with new quarterback Zach Mettenberger set to take over the offense we should see a few more downfield throws than we have seen over the last few seasons. Miles is very happy with his arm, but with the core of running backs we have Miles will not be putting any pressure on Zach to do everything.

The defense will be about the same, minus a few faces. Some went to the NFL, such as Michael Brockers and Mo Claiborne. Others are taking time off from the game due to unfortunate rule violations. But we are returning a lot of very good talented players as well as a lot of depth on this team. Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo will anchor the defensive line this season and will be bringing a lot of pressure to opposing quarterbacks.

Kevin Minter will be leading the core of linebackers this season, with a lot of freshman and others who were mainly backups last season. The linebackers may be the most inexperienced bunch on the defense but we know Coach John Chavis will have them ready to play come Saturday.

Safeties Eric Reid and Craig Loston will help Tharold Simon keep the newly starters at defensive back under control. These three players alone have 6 seasons lettered under their belt and with many other inexperienced players getting that start now that Mathieu will not play, will help provide great knowledge and experience to those younger players.

There is no doubt LSU will be ready to play this season as Miles and his coaching staff always do a great job at mentally preparing their players for game days. Preseason ranked #3 this season, these Tigers are accustomed to being top ranked, they spent 11 games ranked #1 last season and finished the regular season undefeated. Another undefeated season is on the horizon all the Tigers have to do is go out there and take it.
