Baton Rouge- The Southeastern Conference has announced the Players of the Week, two of the LSU Tigers’ performances made the list. Freshman cornerback Jalen Mills and junior defensive end Sam Montgomery made the list with their outstanding performance Saturday night against the Washington Huskies.
This was only Mills’ second start at cornerback and he earned SEC Freshman of the week with his seven tackles and his first career interception against the Huskies, Mills sits at third on the defense with 11 total tackles on the season.
Montgomery, who was a 2011 All-American, came up huge with four tackles and one sack for the day. He also had 1.5 tackles for a loss and added three quarterback hurries to earn his co-SEC Defensive Lineman of the week honor with Texas A&M’s Damontre Moore.
Montgomery and Mills were big part of LSU’s stifling defense that held the Huskies to a total of 183 yards on the day. The defense sacked Price four times and the Huskies had 26 rushing yards on 24 attempts. Besides giving the Huskies the ball on 16-yard line on the opening kickoff that led to a field goal the Huskies never saw their own side of the field again. The defense is as good as advertised and they are only going to get better as the young corners gain experience.
