The Tigers have had explosive, talented wide receivers, the past couple of years. However, thanks in large part to the sad excuse for a quarterback, Jordan Jefferson, the receivers haven’t been able to showcase their true abilities. Last year things were an improvement. Zach Mettenburger was able to hit receivers with far more regularity than Jefferson, thus allowing receivers to display what they are capable of. Zach Mettenburger with a year as starter under his belt, and with new offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, the quarterback play should be far improved. With improved QB play, LSU could have one of the top receiving units in the nation. Yes, I am being completely serious. With a lethal running attack that opens things up for the passing game, the wide receivers could be flat out dominate in 2013!
LSU is extremely deep in the position this year. Expect many players to make an impact, but look for three main guys to take over and shred secondaries.
Expect junior, Odell Beckham Jr. to really break out and have a phenomenal season. As we witnessed last year, Beckham has absolute wheels, allowing him to dart past coverage. (Watch the video) All Beckham needs is the ball in his hands to make a special play happen. With an improved quarterback capable of throwing it deep, and an offensive coordinator who loves doing just that, Beckham should thrive in 2013.
Redshirt freshman, Travin Dural, is already drawing comparisons to former LSU receiver, Ruben Randle. Randle had a great career at LSU. Imagine what he could have done with a half way decent quarterback. Travin Dural, was expected to see plenty of playing time as a true freshman, but redshirted due to a knee injury. If he comes even remotely close to what is expected from him this season, he will be truly dominate.
Jarvis Landry showed flashes of brilliance last year, snagging several seemingly uncatchable balls.(Watch the video) Mettenburger should be greatly improved, which should be absolutely frightening for players responsible for covering Landry. With solid throws, Landry should be uncontainable next year. Jarvis finished last year on a tear. In the final five games he had 33 receptions for 357 yards. Expect him to be consistently better than that all season.
LSU fans should be giddy in anticipation to watch these athletes attack SEC defenses. The passing game this year should be something extremely foreign to Tiger fans since Jamarcus Russell, really really good.
