The position previews are coming to a conclusion and what better way to cap them off than with the dominate running game? LSU was going to have a great rushing attack, then Jeremy Hill got reinstated. Now the Tigers’ running unit is just going to be frightening. LSU has four running backs that are all capable of making a huge impact on games this season. Together, they can be utilized to form an exceptionally explosive offense. LSU will have one of the top running back units in all of college football next season. They will not be at the top in terms of statistics, because Les Miles loves to run the ball between the tackles and slow the game down. However, in terms of pure dominance, the rushing attack will easily be one of the tops in the nation.
Junior Terrance Magee has been waiting for a chance to perform. Unless he has an unpredicted breakout year, his touches will still be limited, but his blinding speed will be a great tool to have. He has great speed, and spent some time time as a wide receiver last year. Magee could be beneficial to this year’s passing game. Expect the majority of his snaps to be on third and long, and pray for a pleasant surprise. Jeremy Hill wasn’t expected to do much last year, and look how that turned out.
Kenny Hilliard is LSU’s power back. He refuses to go down, fighting for every inch. (Watch his highlights) Competing with Blue and Hill, Hilliard won’t see the playing time he would see at other schools. He will be an excellent asset in short-yardage situations. Defenses are not going to be able to keep him from getting a yard or two whenever he needs them for a first down.
Alfred Blue is the first of the duo that will take the majority of the carries this season. Last year, he was incredible through the first two games. He was second in the SEC in rushing yards, topping the century mark in both contests. He suffered a terrible injury in week three that took him out for the remainder of the season. With such a deep group of running backs, Blue will be able to put less strain on his body by taking less caries. If he can stay healthy throughout the year expect great things this fall.
Jeremy Hill exploded into the spotlight with a sensation freshman campaign. He rushed for a team leading 755 yards and broke the true freshman touchdown record, with twelve. In April, he was suspended indefinitely after he assaulted a man in a bar parking lot. He was reinstated by a team vote earlier this month. (For more information read the article) With Hill back on the team, and year of experience under his belt, watch for him to take over games. Hill has the potential to be one of the best running backs in the nation if he can keep his nose clean.
Tiger fans should be ecstatic. This is arguably the most complete running attack the country has seen in a long time. The running backs are the heart of this year’s LSU team and they will not disappoint!
