The No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs (3-1) open up as 3-point favorites in Saturday’s top 10 battle with the No. 6 LSU Tigers. Traditionally, the home team lays three points, so really this is not a shocking opening spread. However, it is rather surprising when you consider the fact that LSU may be the most complete team in college football.

The last time Georgia and LSU met in the 2011 SEC Championship Game Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray had a tough time keeping the ball away from a ball-hawking defense led by Morris Claiborne and Tyrann Mathieu who would win the Thorpe and Bednarik awards, respectively.

Murray just threw for more than 400 yards including a 98-yard touchdown pass was the 100-touchdown pass of his career, but he may have some mad nightmares of his three turnovers in the game in 2011 which turned ugly in the second half.

And then there’s this interesting stat via Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, Georgia is 3-12 all-time in games when it is the featured matchup for ESPN’s College Gameday pregame show. Wouldn’t you know that Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and the rest of the Gameday crew will be between the hedges this weekend.
