LSU Making a Push for 5-Star Recruit Lorenzo Carter

LSU has an opportunity to make a statement and gain some traction in the recruitment of one of the top recruits in the nation on Saturday when the Tigers travel to Georgia who will be hosting five-star defensive end/outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter.

The Norcross, Ga native has an offer from LSU, but the Tigers currently trail his top pack of schools with Florida—my current prediction on 247Sports—and Alabama and the in-state Bulldogs presume to be the top three for the 6-5, 228-pound edge rusher.

However, LSU has an opportunity to gain momentum with a strong showing on Saturday with strong efforts from defensive ends Jordan Allen and Jermauria Rasco in an LSU win. A win and impact plays alone won’t be enough for LSU to suddenly vault into his top group of schools, but it’s certainly a start and would give him something to think about on the drive back home.

“Georgia versus LSU is a big game so of course I want to see it,” Carter told the 247Sports staff. “It is always great to be in Athens on a Saturday when Georgia is playing a good team and College Gameday is there.”

LSU will also get a second opportunity to “spoil” an official visit for Carter when he visits Alabama during the Crimson Tide’s game against the Tigers November 9th and if the Bayou Bengals win both of those games, then perhaps he takes an official to LSU after that.

You better believe his recruiters John Chavis and Brick Haley have been pushing to get one of his final official visits and I like their chances of getting one.  LSU produces NFL defensive linemen like they grow on trees and while Carter can have his pick of the liter when it comes to elite programs, I like LSU to make it interesting over the next few months.

Before the next few months get interesting, however, a big impression can be made with an even bigger win over Georgia.
