LSU had a dominating performance in their 17-6 win at Tiger Stadium over the then No. 17 Florida Gators, and with teams losing and struggling in front of them in the AP Top 25, LSU had a big opportunity to move up in this week’s poll.
Last week, LSU was ranked at No. 10–which I felt was a spot or two below where they should have been ranked–but this week’s poll got it right as the Tigers are now the No. 6 team in the nation.
The top five consists of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oregon Ducks, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida State Seminoles. The Texas A&M Aggies moved up to No. 7 giving the SEC three teams inside the top seven.
Clemson and Florida State play this week, so the potential for LSU to move ahead one of the two exists if LSU can get past the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday night from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.
Dropping from the top five is the Stanford Cardinal who lost to the Utah Utes.
The SEC has a record eight teams ranked inside the AP top 25.
