The matchup between No. 17 Florida and No. 10 LSU was expected to be a battle between the LSU offense and the Florida defense. In reality, the game turned out to be a duel between two defenses. The LSU defense has been billed the weakness of the Tigers all season. That was not the case on Saturday. The Tigers’ defense shutdown Tyler Murphy and the Florida offense, leading the Tigers to a 17 to 6 victory.

Before the game, the Florida defense received all the talk and deservingly so. They are one of the best defenses in the country. The LSU defense outplayed them on Saturday, and that was the difference in LSU winning.

Grade for LSU Defense: A+

The LSU defense has struggled this year. They lost eight defenders to the NFL draft last year, the most in the nation. Things were different on Saturday. No body said it better than Les Miles to his team after the game.

I’m telling you right now that defense played their asses off

The LSU defense was incredible. They held Florida out of the end-zone for the first time in their rivalry since 1979.  The Tigers shut down Tyler Murphy, only allowing him to pass for 115 yards on 27 attempts. The LSU defense also only allowed 111 yards rushing throughout the entire game.

Danielle Hunter was outstanding. His performance earned him SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors. Hunter finished with seven tackles, including one for loss. He showed his athleticism breaking up two passes. He was a menace for Florida, constantly in the backfield disrupting plays.

The LSU defense was all around incredible. They stepped up and out performed a highly praised Gator defense, winning the game for the Tigers. Grading the defense was the easiest task of the day. They truly earned their A+ grade. If they can continue to play at such a high level, LSU is going to be absolutely frightening.
