Zach Mettenberger is having a great senior season for the LSU Tigers and he has been rewarded for his performance on the field after the first nine games by being named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award on Monday.
Mettenberger is eight yards shy of becoming the first Tiger’s quarterback with more than 2,500 yards passing in back-to-back seasons. He has completed 65.4 percent of his passes, ranks third in the country with 10.8 yards per attempts, seventh with a 177.1 quarterback rating and his 19 touchdowns are seven more than he had last year.
Mettenberger has struggled in his past two games throwing five interceptions, but a monster performance at No. 1 Alabama should put him in better position to being named a finalist.
Fans can vote for Mettenberger here up to one time a day until Nov. 24 to determine the three finalists for the award given to the nation’s top signal-caller. The three finalists will be named on the 25th with the winner being announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel won the award last season and could be one of the three finalists this season. This year’s talent at the position likely means Mettenberger is on the outside looking in, but if you were to ask him, he’d be fine with winning out and putting his team in a BCS bowl.
That would be perfectly fine with LSU fans.
