Bucky Brooks and Dave Dameshek from the NFL Network take an in-depth look at Saturday’s SEC showdown between No. 1 Alabama and No. 13 LSU. You can watch the video here for the full preview, it’s 4:52 but here is some of the snippets from the video.

The two break down the quarterback battle between AJ McCarron and Zach Mettenberger, the matchup between LSU receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham and Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and the role of Jeremy Hill.

One big takeway was that Brooks, a former NFL scout, believes Mattenberger has the potential to be a big time star at the next level and believes he compares favorably to Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl winning quarterback, Joe Flacco because both are big classic pocket passers who excel in the vertical passing game.

Another interesting note was his assessment of McCarron who has been unfairly labeled as a game-manager during his career in Tuscaloosa, but Brooks believes he will be an outstanding NFL quarterback in the right system.

Brooks thinks the key for LSU in this game will be Landry and Beckham because he doesn’t think Hill will be able to run against this Alabama front. He believes the wide receiver duo could provide some “fireworks” if they get loose in the Crimson Tide secondary.

Getting loose could be tough if Clinton-Dix is at the top of his game, says Brooks. He thinks if he can keep the LSU receivers in front of him and make Mettenberger dink and dunk, then it will bode well for the Crimson Tide to stifle this potent LSU offense.
