After LSU dropped their third game of the season last weekend at Alabama one of the storylines in the aftermath of the 38-17 loss was how the recruits, in particular Laurence Jones (Monroe, La. Neville) who was in attendance would react to the disappointing loss.
The 6-2, 214-pound Jones is one of the most important targets for LSU and the five-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings and No. 3 safety in the country is one that can’t get away from Les Miles and LSU. He pushed his decision date back from Nov. 25 to Dec. 2, but Geaux247’s Shea Dixon says things are still looking for LSU to get his commitment.
“He was one of the last guys to arrive for the LSU vs Bama game, and he left for home after. “Disconnected” was one word I heard when describing his mood on the trip. He still plans to visit LSU for his official during the Texas A&M game weekend, and LSU will be able to host both he and his mother. That’s a really good thing. “
What isn’t a really good thing is Jones still plans to take an official visit to Alabama with his mother sometime after his official visit to LSU next weekend. This is going to go back and forth with Jones who has close relationships with players at Alabama, including Louisiana natives Cameron Robinson and Denzel Devall and with players and coaches at his in-state program.
“Right now, it’s still kind of 50-50, Jones tells Charles Power of BamaOnLine. “I’ll be 70-30 one day and then later on that day it will swapped to the other school because of something else I’ve heard. It’s still 50-50 right now.”
The game vs. the Aggies may be the last opportunity for LSU to sell themselves to Jones and knowing he will make another visit to Alabama is reason for concern. That’s why it is absolutely imperative for the Tigers to roll out the red carpet for him and a convincing win in front of an electric Tiger Stadium crowd will go a long way toward securing his commitment.
