LSU used a red hot shooting first half, to knock off St. Joseph’s in the first round of the Old Spice Classic. LSU shot over 60% from the three point line in the first half to help build a 16 points lead. LSU was in control for nearly the entire second half and finished the game with an 82-65 victory.
Jordan Mickey was sensational once again for the Tigers. He had his fourth double-double in just five games, with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting to go along with ten rebounds. Mickey had several tenacious dunks and was named the player of the game.
Jarell Martin played in his second game since injuring his ankle 30 seconds into the season opener. Martin played really well, finishing the game with 15 points, shooting 4-5 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.
Ronald Roberts was solid for St. Joseph’s, scoring 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting. Roberts also pulled down a team high seven rebounds.
The LSU Tigers will face the 21st ranked Memphis Tigers in the winners bracket Friday at 5:30 p.m. CST. Memphis crushed Siena in their first round game 87-60. Memphis is led by freshman Nick King. King leads his team with 16 points per game and is second in rebounds with a 6.3 average. Memphis will be a quality challenge for a LSU team that has played well recently against weaker competition.
