FanSided Podcast: Zach Mettenberger Injury, Iron Bowl Madness & Championship Weekend

On this week’s Death Valley Voice podcast myself and FanSided’s college football editor, Jack Jorgensen take a look back at a crazy end to the regular season for the LSU Tigers. Sadly that was also the final game for quarterback Zach Mettenberger in an LSU uniform who tore his ACL and won’t play in the bowl game.

The senior signal-caller went out a winner for the Tigers however and should be remembered for his excellent senior season under Cam Cameron’s watch. Jack and I talk about what the injury means for Mettenberger’s NFL Draft stock and how there could be a blessing in disguise for him.

We transition to the job of Anthony Jennings who is pressed into starting duties ahead of schedule for LSU, but we find the silver lining with the early call to the starting lineup for the true freshman.

Then we talk about the top games from Rivalry Week which of course included the crazy finish in the Iron Bowl between the Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide and we discuss where the end of that game ranks among college football finishes and where it ranks in all sports.

Part two of the podcast begins with a look at the conference championships for the big four conferences, the SEC, ACC, Big Ten and Pac 12 as we gave our thoughts on these games and our predictions. Even though there is no conference title game we look at the two big games in the Big 12 with the Baylor Bears at the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners at the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The podcast concludes with our thoughts on a one-loss SEC team potentially passing an undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes team in the BCS rankings and our unanimous pick for the Heisman Trophy.
