Breaking News: LSU Tigers to Play Iowa Hawkeyes in Outback Bowl

Earlier this morning I wrote about LSU being projected to play in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day vs. either the Wisconsin Badgers or Iowa Hawkeyes from the Big Ten Conference. With a few hours until the formal announcement Scott Rabalais from The Advocate has a source that says LSU will indeed play Iowa.

Breaking: source tells The Advocate #LSU will play Iowa in the Outback Bowl bowl Jan 1 in Tampa.

The matchup vs. Iowa may not be as sexy of a game as the one vs. Wisconsin would have been, but in the same vein it should be a game that is much easier to leave Tampa with a win. Iowa is 8-4 on the season and is led by running back Mark Weisman and the No. 11 ranked scoring defense.

LSU and Iowa met in the 2005 Capital One Bowl in Nick Saban’s final game as head coach of the Tigers in a game decided as time expired when Iowa quarterback, Drew Tate connected with Wesley Holloway for a 56-yard pass to win 30-25.

The game will kickoff at noon central time from Raymond James Stadium, the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For more information on the Outback Bowl including how to purchase tickets, you can visit the homepage.
