LSU will play the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-4) in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day in a matchup that lacks a lot of sexiness and undoubtedly has some fans a little disappointed after some of the projected bowl matchups leasing up to the announcements Sunday were far more intriguing.
Nevertheless, this is the matchup and I think it bodes very well for LSU to leave Tampa with a win with Anthony Jennings making his first start at quarterback. LSU has opened up as a 7.5-point favorite over their Big Ten Conference foe, according to Oddssharks.com.
Iowa is 7-5 against the spread (ATS) this season and a perfect 5-0 away from Kinnick Stadium. Granted this isn’t a true road game, rather a neutral setting in Raymond James Stadium, but still that’s an interesting figure those placing bets will pay close attention to.
LSU, meanwhile is 2-2-1 ATS away from Tiger Stadium where they were undefeated straight up this year.
When the two teams met in the 2005 Capital One Bowl, Iowa covered the spread and won straight up on a 56-yard touchdown pass from Drew Tate as time expired.
