LSU was not expecting much too much from their quarterbacks this season. Last season Zach Mettenberger threw only 12 touchdown passes, averaged 7.41 yards a pass, was sacked 32 times, and had a 128.3 quarterback rating.
In the off-season LSU brought in Cam Cameron to be the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Mettenberger thrived in the new offense. He looked like a completely different quarterback. Mettenberger really stepped up and led the offense, that picked up the slack for a struggling defense.
Mettenberger finished the year with 22 touchdown passes, ten more than in 2012. He also threw for 473 more yards, despite attempting 56 less passes. Mettenberger was able to get rid of the ball quicker resulting in 11 fewer sacks. He was overall significantly better and had quarterback ratting more than 43 points higher to show for it.

It was heart breaking to see Zach Mettenberger go down with a torn ACL against Arkansas, but Anthony Jennings came off the bench and delivered for the Tigers. His game winning drive for the Tigers was the full of the only significant snaps he took all season, but he made them count. On that drive, Jennings accounted for all 99 yards of LSU’s offense, picking up 76 yards through the air and 23 on the ground. LSU fans should be excited to see Jennings in a starting role next season.
Jennings did not play enough minutes to earn anything more than an average grade.
