Laurence “Hootie” Jones (Monroe, La. Neville) has decommitted from the Alabama Crimson Tide 16 days after committing to Nick Saban and the two-time defending champions over the in-state LSU Tigers.
The four-star safety is the No. 3 safety and No. 6 recruit in the state of Louisiana and the No. 33 player overall according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
When Jones announced his decision to commit to Alabama he noted he didn’t make up his mind until 20 minutes before he announced his intentions to play college football in Tuscaloosa. Jones still has about seven weeks to make up his mind before national signing day in February, and it sounds like he just needs some time to figure things out.

Part of the appeal for Jones to commit to Alabama besides the opportunity to play for Saban and potentially earn a starting spot when Ha Ha Clinton-Dix declares for the NFL draft as expected was the opportunity to play with his friends and fellow Monroe area natives Cameron Robinson and Cameron Sims.
LSU has commitments from No. 4 safety Edward Paris and No. 15 Devin Voorhies at safety and gave Jamal Adams the red carpet treatment on two consecutive weekends before the recruiting dead period and feel confident in their ability to secure the No. 2 safety in the class.
Meanwhile, Alabama could get a commitment from No. 8 safety recruit C.J. Hampton who is currently an Ole Miss commit but is announcing his final decision Friday with Alabama thinking they will flip the Meridian, Miss. native.
With the window open for LSU, they will check in with Jones and see where he’s at and see if they can get him to stay close to home.
