LSU and Iowa players eat 5,000 pounds of food at Outback Steakhouse

The Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers are set to meet in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day and if each of the two teams look a little sluggish after the noon kickoff it’s because of the monumental feast the two teams had courtesy of the bowl game’s sponsor, the Outback Steakhouse.

Now we all know football players can put away food–a lot of food–with relative ease, but a quarter of a ton being demolished in one evening is startling.

To think 80 pounds of barbeque sauce was consumed makes the eyes figuratively pop out of my skull. Try picturing all of that at a grocery store or when you’re at the gym and you see those giant 80 lb dumbbells you can barely pick up off the rack. That’s just the sauce that was consumed tonight.

There is still another 4,200 pounds of grub and Diablo Sauce the Tigers and Hawkeyes plowed through. When you think about it, that’s actually pretty darn impressive.
