LSU came into the game a heavy favorite over a struggling McNeese State team, but the Tigers looked ugly early. Jarell Martin hit a three for the game’s first points, but several LSU turnovers led to a 10-0 run by the Cowboys. However, this was not a sign of things to come as the Tigers walked off the court after the final buzzer with a commanding 79-52 victory.
When the referees signaled for the first TV timeout, McNeese State led 10-3. LSU continued to battle and clung to a mere two point lead with 4:30 left in the first half, but from that moment on it was all Tigers. LSU ended the half on a 17 to 2 run to take a 17 point advantage into the locker room. LSU kept their momentum going in the second half and only added to their already impressive lead.
It was another balanced scoring night for LSU as they had four players score in double figures led by Johnny O’Bryant and Shavon Coleman’s 16 apiece. Martin led the way in rebounding with 10 to go along with his 14 points for his first career double-double.
LSU has one more easy non-conference opponent before their SEC schedule begins. The Tigers will face off with the Rhode Island Rams next Saturday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
