ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper released his first mock draft on Wednesday and only has one LSU Tiger in his admittedly very early projection of the 2014 NFL Draft, but Odell Beckham Jr. is the lone LSU player to appear in the first 30 picks.
Kiper has Beckham mocked to the San Francisco 49ers at pick No. 30 where he could give the team a receiving threat opposite Michael Crabtree and aid in the return game.
Mock drafts are going to fluctuate between now and May’s draft, especially after the combine next month, free agency and pro day’s, so there could be more LSU players in the first round mix in the coming months.
If not for Zach Mettenberger‘s ACL injury, he could have been in the first round conversation as well.
Beckham set a new LSU record in his final season for all-purpose yards and came close to breaking the single-season SEC record for all-purpose yards held by former Kentucky all-purpose threat Randall Cobb .
He won the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player and combined with Landry as the first set of LSU wide receivers to each amass 1,000 receiving yards.
