It was a big recruiting weekend for LSU as the dead period came to an end this week and with national signing day rapidly approaching the opportunities to make an impression on a recruit is limited.
One of the top targets remaining on LSU’s board is Ole Miss Rebels commit and four-star defensive tackle Breeland Speaks (Jackson, Miss. Callaway) after an official visit this weekend.
Speaks has been committed to the in-state program Oct. 21 and has three of his high school teammates committed to Ole Miss, including five-star guard and LSU target Rod Taylor, so prior to his visit it would appear that flipping Speaks may be a tall order.
However, when he spoke to NOLA.com, Speaks intimated that may not necessarily be the case.
“I’ll just say it was a great visit. LSU definitely has a shot.”
Speaks is the No. 212 ranked recruit in the nation and the No. 18 defensive tackle. LSU is looking to add one or two defensive tackles in this class and Speaks and fellow four-star recruit Travonte Valentine, who is visiting this upcoming weekend, are the top two options.
Speaks is visiting Ole Miss and the Arkansas Razorbacks on official visits each of the next two weekends before making his final decision on signing day on Feb. 5.
After Speaks told NOLA.com the trip, “exceeded expectations,” there is reason to be cautiously optimistic about flipping the athletic and versatile 6-3, 270-pound defensive lineman.
