Travonte Valentine (Palm Bay, Fla. Champagnat Catholic – Hialeah) has signed with the LSU Tigers after momentum has swung in their favor after the 338-pound defensive tackle dropped his commitment in early January to the Miami Hurricanes.
Valentine is exactly what LSU needed at defensive tackle, so after Valentine decommitted from Miami, LSU swept in and made him a bigger priority. A weekend visit at the end of January to Miami did little to curtail the wave of momentum for LSU who currently owns the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class in the country.
Valentine is a four-star defensive tackle ranked as the nation’s third best player at his position according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is the No. 65 player overall and at 6-3 and the size and strength he brings could be the next great defensive tackle in Purple and Gold.
He had 85 tackles in his final high school season which garnered him an All-American bid. of his 85 tackles this past season, 31.5 went for loss and he also added 16 sacks.
