The recent success the LSU Tigers have had in the state of Illinois the last two years when they plucked Ethan Pocic and Clifton Garrett from the Land of Lincoln could continue for a third year as the Tigers are emerging as a leader for 247Sports’ No. 2 recruit Terry Beckner Jr. (East St. Louis, Ill. East St. Louis).
LSU along with the USC Trojans and Missouri Tigers are rising to the top of Beckner’s leaderboard according to East St. Louis assistant coach Harith Mitchom who told 247Sports that based on conversations with the 6-4, 270-pound defensive end that those three programs are his early leaders.
With LSU’s track record of developing defensive linemen and sending them to the NFL, the Tigers will be in this race until the end with defensive line coach Brick Haley serving as his primary recruiter and defensive coordinator John Chavis as the secondary recruiter.
Going into Illinois and taking the top recruit for a second straight year and third year in a row with a top three recruit from the state would continue to create a pipeline for Illinois’ top talent to play in the SEC at LSU.
Beckner doesn’t have any visits scheduled at the moment but look for LSU to press him to take a visit for the Tiger’s spring game where they can make a big impression on him as they did for Garrett last year when LSU surged to the top of his leaderboard.
Beckner recorded 99 tackles and eight sacks as a junior.
