The LSU Tigers (16-9, 7-6) are going for a rare season sweep of the No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats )20-6, 10-3) today, but if there are to pull off this feat, they will have to pick up their first road win since Jan. 11 and snap their five-game road losing streak in the process.
LSU defeated then-No. 11 Kentucky 87-82 on Jan. 28 with Johnny O’Bryant leading the Tigers to the upset with 29 points and nine rebounds, but the LSU center has been plagued by foul trouble in recent outings as the 6-9 big man has fouled out of back-t0-back games and three of the past five games.
In the other two games he has picked up four personal fouls, so keeping him on the court to defend against Julius Randle, who is averaging a double-double, is imperative if LSU hopes to pull off another upset.
LSU is coming off a 92-81 win over the struggling Mississippi State Bulldogs with freshman forward Jarell Martin having his best game of his LSU career with 20 points and eight rebounds in 35 minutes as he saw extended minutes with O’Bryant shackled to the bench with foul trouble.
Kentucky has won five of their last six games with the lone loss coming to the Florida Gators who are in line to be the No. 1 team in the polls next week.
