The inaugural LSU Sports Weekend Roundup is here, providing you with all the LSU highlights and stories you may have missed throughout the week. Sit back, relax and Geaux Tigers!

The Tigers’ wild week in sports began with the LSU baseball team being eliminated from postseason play. LSU was swept 2-0 by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in walkoff single fashion, ending one of the most exciting runs during the Paul Mainieri era and officially burying the LSU Rally Possum.

Speaking of Mainieri, the ten-year coach had a flirtation with the University of Texas for seemingly a day, before decided to remain as the LSU baseball coach. Naturally, Twitter reacted in all manner of human emotion.

Eight LSU baseball players were drafted during the Major League Baseball draft, including Jake Fraley to the Tampa Bay Rays at pick No. 77, the last pick of the first day. Seven Tigers were taken on day three of the MLB Draft, including Jared Poche’, Jesse Stallings, Cole Freeman, Riley Smith, Greg Deichmann, Parker Bugg and Kramer Robertson.

More from Death Valley Voice

Fraley and Smith have opted to sign with their respective clubs, while Deichmann, Robertson and Freeman have declared they are returning for the 2017 baseball season.

LSU will now allow opposing marching bands to perform at halftime of football games in the future.

Former LSU basketball star Ben Simmons reportedly finally met with the Philadelphia 76ers, possessors of the No. 1 pick in next week’s NBA Draft, per Philly.com. There had been speculation that Simmons and his representation were deliberately avoiding meeting with the Sixers, in an attempt to have the club pass on drafting him in hopes Simmons would land with the Los Angeles Lakers at the No. 2 pick.

LES BEING LES! The inaugural LSU Sports Weekend Roundup wouldn’t be complete without some Mad Hatter shenanigans. Miles and the family attended Game 6 of the NBA Finals, as part of a surprise Father’s Day trip.

LSU’s Leonard Fournette, celebrity daught Lyric: How fatherhood transformed college football’s best player [The Advocate – Ross Dellenger]

"Lyric is now a healthy, 18-pound 17-month-old, more important to her father than any touchdown, more sacred than any victory. He holds her closer than that football you see him carry across the gridiron, wraps his bulging arms around her skinny frame, clutches her tiny hand with his massive mitts."
