The LSU football program and the Alabama Crimson Tide have one of the most competitive rivalries on the field in college football history.

But now, it looks like the two are going to square off in the recruiting game as well.

LSU has been trying to flip the commitment of Southern Lab linebacker, Chris Allen.  As of Friday, Allen has cancelled his official visit to Alabama this weekend in favor of the Tigers.

This is definitely big news for LSU, whose top priority in recruiting is currently the LB position.  The Tigers have been in pursuit of this particular commit for some time now, even after he committed to Nick Saban’s Tide during an unofficial visit back in late November.

Current Tigers defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has been the driving force behind recruiting the 6’5, 235-pound prospect.  Head coach Ed Orgeron and outside linebackers coach Dennis Johnson among others have put in their efforts as well.

There’s no question that the Tigers need someone like Allen to fit Aranda’s 3-4 defense that the team will continue to employ in the 2017 season.

If Allen does decide to go with LSU, he will also have the gift of playing football at home, as he is a Baton Rouge resident.

Allen appears to leaning more and more in the direction of LSU every day, so expect him to be fully committed to the purple and gold in the near future.
