LSU football looks like the team to beat for one of the nation’s top 2021 wide receivers.

LSU football appears to be in the driver’s seat for one of the nation’s best 2021 wide receivers.

Rivals national recruiting analyst Rob Cassidy recently ranked the contenders for four-star wide receiver Jacorey Brooks and he has the Tigers as the team most likely to land the dynamic wide receiver.

Brooks, 6-foot-3/183 lbs from Miami, FL (Booker T. Washington), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 25 overall recruit in the country.

Cassidy noted that Brooks has “long loved Ed Orgeron’s program”, while adding “LSU will have their pick at wide receiver, so a lot of this is about the program’s preference”.

It’s true that Coach O and his staff essentially have their pick of the litter at wide receiver at this point (LSU is absolutely “wide receiver U” these days). But it seems unfathomable that they’d pass on Brooks.

247Sports’ Andrew Ivins says Brooks is a “natural pass catcher with good balance”, while also noting that Brooks “has the ability to not only win balls in the air, but also turn short routes into long gains”.

Brooks isn’t a speedster, but he’s one of the most reliable wide receivers in the 2021 recruiting class (he caught 99 passes for 1,281 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2019 while playing in a competitive area). He could potentially be the program’s next Jarvis Landry.

5 non-conference games we'd love to see LSU play. dark. Next

Alabama, Miami, Florida and Florida State are also in the mix here. But it sounds like Brooks is destined for Baton Rouge.
