Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow is expected to be the top selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Miami Dolphins have made it clear, through various reports, that they’d love to trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft so they can select former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow.

And who can blame them?

Burrow’s 2019 season was possibly the best year ever for a college football player. 5,671 passing yards and 60 touchdowns (against only six interceptions) are insane numbers — especially in the SEC.

The Dolphins are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, so it makes sense that they’d be interested in trading up for Burrow.

But the Cincinnati Bengals, the team with the first overall pick, also desperately needs a franchise quarterback. That means the trade price for the top pick will be extremely high.

Of course, everyone has a price at some point. So what would it take for the Bengals to trade the top pick?

ESPN’s Louis Riddick, who spent 13 years working in NFL Front offices (with the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles), thinks he knows what it would likely take.

Riddick said this week that if he were running the Bengals, it would take at least two first round picks and two second round picks to trade out of the top spot.

The Dolphins have three first round picks and two second round picks this year, so they definitely have the draft capital to make a trade.

Miami general manager Chris Grier has made it clear, via ESPN, that the Dolphins “can do anything we want”.

Ultimately, I’d be very surprised if the Bengals traded the top pick. Burrow is a transcendent quarterback who could completely change the trajectory of a franchise. Teams don’t often gets chances to draft those types of players.

But the Dolphins certainly have the assets to make this things interesting over the next couple of weeks.
