LSU football is battling to win a commitment from four-star wide receiver Brian Thomas.

When it comes to recruiting, there’s likely nothing more important to LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron than landing elite in-state players, which is one of the reasons it’s extremely important for the Tigers to secure a commitment from four-star wide receiver Brian Thomas.

Another reason LSU needs to land Thomas?

Because he’s really, really good.

Thomas, 6-foot-4/190 lbs from Walker, LA (Walker), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 9 wide receiver in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 63 overall recruit in the nation.

247Sports national writer Charles Power describes Thomas as a player who “runs well with the ability to separate within the route with quickness and change of direction”.

Power also noted that Thomas is “dangerous after the catch and in the quick game in addition to his possession skills”.

The Louisiana native recently told Rivals that he was laser-timed running a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash.

Who is LSU football battling for Thomas?

According to Rivals, this is shaping up to be an Alabama/LSU battle, though Georgia and Texas A&M were also included in Thomas’ recently released top four.

For now, Thomas isn’t really tipping his hand on where he’ll end up. That’s probably because he’s still unsure.

The dynamic wide receiver also told Rivals he’s hoping to take some more visits before he commits (he’s undecided on when he’ll commit).

LSU has the edge when it comes to visits that have already happened, though. Rivals reported that Thomas has visited Baton Rouge at least 10 times (which isn’t a surprise, since Walker, LA is only 30 minutes from Baton Rouge). He’s visited Alabama around four times and he’s never visited Georgia or Texas A&M.

My gut says the Tigers land Thomas, but it won’t be easy. Thomas is going to take his time and make the decision he feels is best for him. He won’t be committing to LSU simply because he grew up near campus.
