LSU football is hoping to win a recruiting battle against the Georgia Bulldogs.

LSU football and the Georgia Bulldogs are locked in a battle for one of the nation’s top-rated 2022 recruits.

Four-star linebacker Daniel Martin, 6-foot-3/190 lbs from Marietta, GA (Marietta), has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Nebraska, and Oregon, among many others.

But it appears to be Georgia and LSU out in front for the dynamic linebacker, with the Bulldogs holding the lead for the time being.

“I would say Georgia does have the edge right now. Georgia is in my home state, my mom went there, my family loves them, I love the vibe there and they will always be a top school for me,” said Martin to Rivals this week.

The Georgia native added, “I like LSU too”.

Martin played high school football with current Tigers Arik Gilbert and BJ Ojulari (both players signed with LSU during the 2020 signing period).

“I know Arik Gilbert loves it and has told me a lot about it. I do want to get back there (Baton Rouge) this season,” said Martin.

Even though the Bulldogs are the current favorites for Martin, it’s certainly possible that the presence of Gilbert and Ojulari could sway Martin to LSU.

Fortunately for the Tigers, they have plenty of time to get the talented recruit on campus again.

What would LSU football get in Martin?

Martin is rated by 247Sports as the No. 7 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 2 outside linebacker in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 51 overall 2022 recruit in the nation.

Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons notes that Martin “plays all over the field”, while adding that he “project at multiple positions, like outside linebacker, strong safety or that STAR position”.
