As a whole the staff was dominate in its three game, with a small exception to Ryan Eades. Kevin Gasuman and Aaron Nola were named to the all-tournament team and no one from the bullpen made it simple because they were rarely called upon.

The paragraph above says all we need to about the starters. Gasuman and Nola were outstanding, while Eades struggled. We have heard this story before right? Lets take a look at each performance.

Starting with Eades, the one thing that you notice compared to the other two is just how well the opposing team sees his pitches. There is nothing wrong with being a ground ball pitcher, except when teams are hitting ropes off of him. Too often Eades can cruise through the first two batters, but the final out is tougher than a Waffle House steak.

Eades’ leash will be significantly shorter this weekend in LSU super regional, but can the Tigers expect repeat performances from Nola and Gasuman to help preserve the bullpen? Stony Brook’s offense will have a lot of say about that, but I find it hard to believe that those two will be able to be as dominant as they were last weekend.

For starters Nola isn’t pitching against a offense as poor as ULM. Nola numbers were a bit inflated…in fact its was his best pitching performance of his season and that usually isn’t supposed to happen in post-season play. I would expect Gausman to remain Kevin Gasuman, but surely he will struggle if he only strikes out three again right? Not to mention his 59-percent strikes thrown probable will not repeat itself.

With the starters out of the way lets focus on the bullpen. Ill be brief because there isn’t a lot of data to go off of. The big thing is they pen did not allow a single run to score Lets take a look at the numbers.

Besides the solid numbers, the only other thing we can take away from the bullpen this weekend is the amount of rest the staff will have heading into this weekend. Guys like Brent Bonvillain, Joe Broussard and Joey Bourgeois will have nearly two weeks between their last outings, what kind of effect will that time off have?
