7.) Devon Godchaux will be LSU’s best defensive tackle by the end of the season. Godchaux got work early in the first quarter and was able to push around the SHSU offensive line, disrupting their high-tempo attack. Les Miles has compared him to Glenn Dorsey and the comparison is obvious. Godchaux has an explosive burst and he can get under any lineman’s pads, gaining leverage.

Godchaux didn’t even begin the season in the two-deep, but he’s quickly vaulted his way to the top of the depth chart. Right now, Christian LaCouture and Quentin Thomas are the starters, but Godchaux could take the spot occupied by Thomas in the coming weeks.

One of the biggest question marks coming into the season was the interior of LSU’s defensive line. While it still has more to prove and more depth to build, Godchaux’s early performance has been a welcome surprise.
