Three LSU football players headed to the Senior Bowl

The Senior Bowl provides players with an opportunity to showcase their talent before the NFL Draft, and three members of the LSU football team accepted invites on Tuesday.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is more than just a postseason All-Star game honoring the top seniors in college football. Perhaps most importantly, it serves as an opportunity for these players to make a lasting impression on teams prior to the NFL Draft.

The Senior Bowl is broken up into the North and South teams, and the players are coached by an NFL coaching staff. It is a showcase that features a plethora of general managers, scouts, coaches and other league personnel in attendance, and a strong showing by a player can go a long way in positively influencing their draft stock.

On Tuesday, three members of the LSU football team accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl: defensive back Jalen Mills, linebacker Deion Jones and offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.

The Senior Bowl said the following about the LSU seniors in a press release on Tuesday, per

Vadal Alexander | OG | LSU – Four year starter; second team All-SEC in 2014.

Deion Jones | OLB | LSU – Finalist for the Butkus Award, given to nation’s top linebacker; leads LSU with 81 tackles and 10.5 tackles for losses in his first season as a starter; has 3.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Jalen Mills | DB | LSU – Four-year starter for Tigers; missed part of senior season with injury but still has managed 30 tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defensed in six games.

A handful of other players from the SEC will be taking part in the event. Three players from Mizzou and two players each from Georgia, Arkansas and Florida have accepted invitations, with more likely to come in the near future.

The Senior Bowl will be played on January 30th at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised on NFL Network, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.

Senior Bowl tickets range from $10 to $30, and can be purchased at the Senior Bowl website.
