LSU baseball: 2016 full preview
By Bailey Adams
Best Case Scenario: Another trip to Omaha
If all the pieces fall into place, the Tigers could put together another dominant regular season. LSU could find themselves in the top two of the SEC West and near the top of the SEC. It’ll be a tight race with Texas A&M in the west during the regular season, but regardless, the Tigers will find themselves in a regional in June. It’s hard to pick against them getting there.
The lack of a clear No. 3 starter as of now is a question, but the biggest question from there will be the offense (sound familiar, LSU football fans?). If LSU finds someone to fill into the No. 3 spot in the pitching rotation, it’ll be a big step in the right direction from last season.

It’s no secret that at least three wins are needed to get past regionals. If the young lineup can put up enough runs, the Tigers could win their regional.
From there, it’s not hard to see Poche’ and Lange delivering in Super Regionals to get LSU back to Omaha.
Worst Case Scenario: Falling Short in Regionals
The last time LSU failed to make the NCAA tournament was 2011 and before that, it was 2007.
Paul Mainieri’s team is talented enough to make the tournament again in 2016. Is the team talented enough to host? The pitching staff will be a big strength, but the unknown is the offense.
In the worst case, the Tigers fail to host a regional, draw a tough regional assignment and see their season end in quick fashion.
