Tyron Johnson

LSU has been, and likely will always be, a run-first offense during the Les Miles era. With the a couple notable exceptions, the Tigers have always relied on a stable of bruising running backs to propel the offense to success.

Yet, year in and year out, LSU continues to attract some of the top high school receivers to Baton Rouge (see NFL players Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Reuben Randle).

Rated as high as the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana coming out of  in the class of 2015, wide receiver Johnson was used sparingly in his freshman campaign, but showed flashes of why he’s the heir apparent to lead the Tigers’ receiving corps when upperclassmen Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre depart for the NFL.

Johnson caught nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns last season, including a 61-yarder against Western Kentucky.

If the LSU offense does indeed feature a more balanced attack in 2016, Johnson will likely be of the beneficiaries of LSU’s increased emphasis on the passing game.
