1.Bert Jones

Bert Jones may have only made 15 starts in his career as LSU’s first All-American quarterback, but he had a bigger impact on the Tigers offense than any other player to ever go under center for the Tigers.

Jones kept the team ranked in the AP top 10 nearly the entire time he was at the helm, only allowing the Tigers to fall out of the rankings for one week.

Jones finished in fourth place in the Heisman voting for his senior season in 1972, and was named the SEC Player of the Year. This came as no surprise, considering that Jones led the conference in every major passing category that year.

Like many past LSU quarterbacks, Jones possessed tremendous arm strength and accuracy.  He finished his career with 3,390 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading LSU to a record of 12-2-1. Jones is also one of the only LSU quarterbacks to be just as successful in the NFL as he was in college, playing for the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Colts. Jones went on to win the league’s MVP title in 1976, and also appeared in the Pro Bowl that same year.

Jones will become the ninth Tiger to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December of this year.
