No. 2 Jarell Martin

Baton Rouge native Jarell Martin was selected as a McDonald’s All American in 2013 and may have ushered in the era of recruiting elite players for Coach Johnny Jones.

Martin started off his career well as he made the All-SEC Freshman team at the conclusion of his first year averaging double-figures in scoring and making his presence felt on the defensive end. However, it was in his sophomore year that Martin really made a splash.

As a sophomore (2014-15) Martin shouldered the scoring load and led all Tigers with 16.9 points a game. He also averaged near ten boards a game as the team rode his talents to an NCAA Tournament berth. Possibly most memorable from Jarell Martin were his trademark fast breaks ending in dunk contest worthy slams. The 6’10” PF matched his solid rebounding and scoring ability with elite athleticism for a player of his size and has seen some success at the NBA level with the Memphis Grizzlies.
