ESPN Films’ latest installment in its SEC Storied series focuses on former LSU baseball player Warren Morris’ walk-off home run to win the 1996 College World Series.

The most famous moment in LSU

baseball

athletics history is getting the documentary treatment 20 years later. “The Walk Off” chronicles the journey of Warren Morris from lanky Alexandria, Louisiana native to College World Series champion.

In the 1990s the LSU baseball program was a behemoth, winning four College World Series championships, and Morris’ epic home run was the peak of a legendary LSU coach Skip Bertman’s career. “The Walk Off” certainly promises to be a nice stroll down memory lane for LSU baseball fans.

The documentary also serves as the official close to the 2016 college baseball season, as the rain-delayed College World Series Championship will finally wrap up this afternoon.

More information on “The Walk Off” per ESPN Films’ release:

"Twenty years ago he became the only man ever to hit a walk off home run to end the College World Series—and it was his only home run of the season. Warren Morris, just recovering from a broken bone in his right hand, could barely swing a bat. Still, legendary LSU coach Skip Bertman inserted him into the lineup in the title game of the college world series against the University of Miami."

“And it was his only home run of the season.” Still as incredible today as it was in 1996. The release continues:

"It was an era in which home runs flew out of college ball parks at a record pace. But on this day, a terrific wind blowing in from left field had not allowed a single ball to leave the yard. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, LSU down by one and a man on base, one of the smallest players on either roster stepped up, his team in need of a big hit. Morris delivered arguably the biggest moment in college baseball history."
