Top Ten Les Miles Quotes
LSU football coach Les Miles has developed a reputation for delivering memorable, hilarious and interesting quotes during his tenure in Baton Rouge. Here are some of The Mad Hatter’s best quips over the years.
To say Miles creatively uses the English language would be an understatement. Unlike legendary SEC football coach Steve Spurrier, Miles doesn’t usually use his platform in front of the cameras for dish out clever barbs at opponents (unless you’re a quarterback recruit that lacks “chest”). Instead he’s crafted a quirky and lovable personality that fans around that nation have come to embrace over 11 seasons in Baton Rouge.
Whether he’s defending players who have been deemed “flops” by the Baton Rouge media or explaining his propensity to nibble on stadium grass, Miles seemingly invents new ways to utilize speech, simultaneously confusing us and making us smile.
Miles’ musings have ranged from FIFA Soccer to William Shakespeare and even election day.
But the Mad Hatter will always be remembered for his “damn strong” fiery rant before the 2007 SEC Championship game, when rumors were circulating that he had taken the head coaching job at his alma mater Michigan.
"“I’m the head coach at LSU. I will be the head coach at LSU. I have no interest in talking to anybody else. I got a championship game to play, and I’m excited for the opportunity of my damn strong football team to play in it. Please ask me after. I’m busy. Thank you very much. Have a great day!”"
Winning or losing, Miles is certainly interesting. His passionate personality and unique diction are why he’s one of the most memorable and lovable coaches to ever grace the LSU campus.
