A Victory Over Alabama

It’s been nearly five years since the Tigers have topped the Crimson Tide on the gridiron, when LSU beat Alabama 9-6 during the 2011 season.

Since the “Game of the Century,” Alabama has owned LSU, winning five straight contests, including a 21-0 drubbing in the 2012 BCS National Championship game.

The vitriol from LSU football fans towards Alabama is personal. It’s not just that Alabama keeps beating the Tigers, but it’s the fact that the Crimson Tide is doing it with former LSU coach Nick Saban at the helm.

Fans in Baton Rouge will forever view the current Saban era in Tuscaloosa as the ultimate “what could have been” scenario had Saban remained as LSU’s head coach and continued his burgeoning dynasty on the Bayou.

Alabama owns the all-time series (50-25-5), but from 2000-2011 the Tigers were 9-3 against the Tide, including five straight victories from 2003-2007.

Championships are the ultimate prize for LSU football fans, but a victory over Alabama (and Nick Saban) would taste so very, very sweet.

LSU hosts Alabama this fall on November 5, and once again, all eyes around the college football world will be fixed on Baton Rouge.

The road to Atlanta goes through Alabama, and without a victory over the Crimson Tide, the Tigers cannot assure themselves of a trip to the SEC Championship.
