LSU Football has produced several great NFL DBs and this year’s team might just have another one.

When you think of LSU Football, you instantly think of DBU. You think Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Jamal Adams, Morris Claiborne, Eric Reid, and the list goes on and on and on. Every year it seems that we are just waiting to see the next guy who will represent DBU with pride. This year, we might have a guy who is just as talented as any of the guys listed, and his name is Grant Delpit.

Going into the season, many people might not have known about Grant Delpit. Maybe even during the season, in the games prior to the Ole Miss game, he might not have been a household name for most Tiger fans. Then it was like something out of a movie. Saturday night, Death Valley, primetime ESPN, and boom. Grant Delpit notched his second interception of the season, a pass breakup, 5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a hurry, and a partridge in a pear tree. Talk about a stat stuffer.

The 6-3 product out of Houston, Texas has become the talk of the football after his big game. Anyone from Ryan Clark to Jamal Adams to Davon Godchaux has chimed in on his incredible play. Check out the reaction on Twitter:

Ryan Clark approves, so you should too.

Even players from other top teams in college football are saluting Grant, as Oklahoma star CeeDee Lamb chimes in.

Then came the beginning of the comparisons to Jamal Adams. Several different people have come through to make the comparison, and its easy to see. Both are fast and physical and make plays at and behind the line of scrimmage, but I am going to be bold here. That comparison might not even be enough. After going back and watching film of both players, Delpit has the ability to be one of the best safeties in program history. If you are like me, you probably will be relieved to know that he is only a sophomore, and will have another season after this season. It is likely he won’t last much longer than that, as he looks like a surefire first round pick, at the least.

In what has been an incredible year for the Tigers, it is safe to say the old cliché applies here, “The rich just keep getting richer.” The Tigers defense keeps getting better, and Grant Delpit has made him some money this season.
