A member of the LSU Tigers’ coaching staff is reportedly a candidate to become the Oregon Ducks’ new offensive coordinator.

LSU Tigers offensive analyst Jorge Munoz is reportedly a candidate to replace Marcus Arroyo, who recently became the new head coach at UNLV, as the Oregon Ducks’ offensive coordinator.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberger noted on Wednesday that Munoz, who was previously on staff for 10 years in various roles at Louisiana-Lafayette, has been a big part of Joe Burrow’s success at LSU this season.

(Munoz also spent time as an offensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois in the mid-2000’s.)

Munoz was so instrumental in Burrow’s success this season, that he was invited by the redshirt senior quarterback to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in December. Burrow made it a point to thank Munoz during the post-ceremony press conference.

The fact that Oregon is interested in hiring an analyst as their offensive coordinator tells you just how well thought of Munoz is in the coaching industry.

Losing Munoz, of course, would hurt LSU for several reasons. For one, he’s obviously a key member of the coaching staff. But maybe most importantly, Munoz would be in line for a promotion if there’s any staff change at LSU during the off-season.

Passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Joe Brady is a hot name in the coaching world right now. And while it seems he’ll stay put at LSU, you never know what can happen when the coaching carousel is in motion. Brady has already been getting attention from NFL teams.

If Brady were to leave Baton Rouge, Munoz could be a candidate to take his spot on Ed Orgeron’s staff.

For what it’s worth, I imagine Munoz would consider whether or not there will be an open position at LSU before he jet sets across the country to take a job at Oregon.
