Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney made quite the comparison when discussing LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow.

The Clemson Tigers will have their hands full with LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow on Monday night in the College Football Playoff championship game in New Orleans.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is well aware of the effect that Burrow will have on the matchup. In fact, he couldn’t quit gushing about Burrow during a recent interview with ESPN.

Swinney told ESPN that Burrow is “incredibly smart” and that it makes him “sick” to watch him on tape.

The former Alabama wide receiver didn’t stop the praise there, either. Swinney tossed a massive compliment at Burrow by saying the LSU quarterback is “like watching Tom Brady, just more athletic”.

Here’s the full interview with Swinney. His comments about Burrow start at the 2:10 mark.

Swinney cited savviness, poise, knowledge and ability to escape trouble as some of the strongest parts of Burrow’s game.

(Basically, Swinney is impressed with everything Burrow does on the field.)

As far as the Brady comparison, I can certainly see that. Burrow makes everyone around him better. And he’s an incredible leader.

But will he be as good as Brady at the next level?

I think, at this point, that’s impossible to know. And it’s really not even fair to Burrow to make those comparisons (even though they make sense). Brady ended up in the perfect situation at New England. He wasn’t drafted to be the savior of a franchise. No one really expected anything from him. Brady was just another late round draft pick that was likely an afterthought on draft day.

Burrow, however, will be expected to “save” a NFL franchise — which means whoever drafts him (likely the Cincinnati Bengals) probably won’t be a very good team. In other words, Burrow isn’t going to be set up for success from day one.

There’s no doubt that Burrow has the talent to great in the NFL, but it’s important that wherever he ends up has the resources to put a great team around him.
