Various LSU Tigers spoke to the media on Saturday ahead of Monday’s championship game matchup against the Clemson Tigers.

LSU Tigers tight end Thaddeus Moss might have made a big mistake on Saturday during his media session in New Orleans.

Moss, who transferred to LSU from NC State, was asked about Clemson’s defense by a reporter.

His response probably won’t sit will with Clemson.

Clemson’s scoring defense was No. 1 in the country this season, only allowing 11.5 points per game. But the level of competition Clemson faced was not nearly the same as what LSU faced in 2019 (Clemson will be the seventh top 10 team LSU has played this season). However, even against non-SEC competition, those are pretty good defensive numbers.

Now, it’s no secret that I think LSU is winning this game — I don’t think Clemson, specifically their secondary, can stop Joe Burrow and the LSU offense.

But that doesn’t mean Moss was wise to throw shade at Clemson’s defense on Saturday. This plays right in Dabo Swinney’s playbook.

Swinney loves playing the underdog. He loves it when no one believes in Clemson (who, by the way, are the defending national champions after blowing out Alabama last year).

There’s no need for Moss to give Clemson bulletin board material. It doesn’t help LSU in any way. It only helps Clemson.

How does Clemson view Moss?

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables met with the media earlier on Saturday. When he was asked about Moss, he complimented the tight end on his physical toughness and willingness to block.

Moss, who caught 42 passes for 534 yards and two touchdowns, will have his work cut out for him if he’s going to back up his words on Monday night. Clemson’s defense might not be as good as they’ve been in recent years, but they’re still one of the best defenses in the nation.
